During last week’s episode of “The Golden Bachelor,” 72-year-old Gerry Turner reportedly courted a female contestant by offering her a Werther’s Original Hard Caramel.
According to several other contestants, Turner approached Joan, the 60-year-old contestant from Maryland, after group supper on the beach. “We were still at the table, waiting for dessert, but Joan and Gerry were missing,” reported one contestant. “I knew what had happened when I saw the gold wrapper fall out of Joan’s pocket before the rose ceremony.”
Joan, whose official bio reports that she “loves dancing after a couple glasses of wine,” denied the claim. “Gerry and I just get each other. If that makes other contestants levy wild, raunchy accusations about our romance, it speaks to their jealousy.”
Although Turner claimed in a talking head to be looking for monogamy, two other contestants reported being approached with a Werther’s Original. “After supper, he came up to me and pretended to pull the caramel out from behind my ear,” said contestant Mary Adams. “I guess he thought that would impress me or something.”
“He tried to pull the same move on me too,” said Rhona Normand. “He did call me Joan though, so he could have just been confused.”
At press time, Joan was trying to pick off all of the stray bits of wrapper still stuck to the caramel.
